Welcome! Over the past few years, something that started off as a way to process our thoughts and concerns around climate change, ecological destruction and impending totalitarianism has become a much larger project, now spanning well over 100 episodes. While we receive thousands of listens a day, the resource as it exists, in audio format, is difficult as a resource to access specific information as needed, and we have been trying to find ways to easily transcribe that information into a better source.
We considered and began the painstaking task of transcribing each episode. Because of the very specific content of the show, much of the automated transcription tools struggled, and it became more apparent that the show and the content offered two different functions. Our solution is something simple and a bit more elegant; creating a supplemental reader which extrapolates the key information from episodes and provides a resource for folks who aren’t into podcasts, or who may be looking for a focus on factual data or something they can site the information. Having a written format also allows us to make any updates as information changes, as we can, to most accurately reflect the science behind our work.
What does this all mean? It means we will be slowly working to put content up here. For the time being, that does not include interviews. It also means breaking out that content into smaller snippets. It also means that we may include content from episodes that have not come out yet but have been written. The notes from our show span, excluding interviews, span over 800 pages, and our hope is to get those in front of you as we can. We will likely be breaking down episodes into multi-part releases, since it allows us to pick at these slowly and also increases the likelihood people will finish the episodes (a typical reading of an episode notes will take you half an hour; I don’t know too many folks that sit at their phone and read an article for that long). The goal is to make the information as accessible as possible, and that means reformatting the content for the platform.
While we won’t paywall this content, we do ask that if you can, please support it. It’s a tedious project to make this accessible, and any support helps us financially but also reminds us that people value what we’re doing enough to contribute money to make sure it continues to exist. We will likely paywall content that is early release, because our goal isn’t to pull people away from listening to the podcast, but otherwise we will continue to rely on the belief that people will support the things they value.
We look forward to seeing how this unique platform helps us grow.
